4th of July weekend

We had a great 4th of July weekend. Simon didn't have to work and so we got to hang out a lot and get some things done around the house. On the 4th we started it off by going to the ward breakfast. It is always fun to visit with people from the ward and neighborhood. Then we hung out at home getting some things done around the house. Then in the afternoon we went to Henrik's house (Simon's brother) for a BBQ. There was so much food! It was all delicious! I should have taken a picture of it because I am salivating just thinking of it! Then when we got home we hurried and packed an overnight bag for all of us. We decided that we would go on a "mini-vacation"! Since Simon is so busy working this summer and it is so expensive to drive anywhere, we decided to go stay a night at a hotel downtown. We knew there would be fireworks at Franklin Covey Field after the Bees baseball game, so we looked for a hotel that was tall enough and faced south without anything obstructing our view for fireworks! We decided on Little America. We got checked into our 15th floor room and the baseball field was straight in front of us a few blocks south. It was perfect. Kajsa was so excited about everything. She climbed onto the beds and jumped and kept running over to look at the swimming pools down below! We ate dinner and then Kajsa and Simon went swimming before the fireworks started. Brynn was exhausted from the day so she was fast asleep! We didn't get to see just the fireworks at the baseball field. We could see the whole valley exploding with fireworks. We saw the big show at Sugar House Park, one in West Valley, and some smaller ones further south. Kajsa was in such awe at the fireworks! Simon had to open the window just so he could hear the loud boom from the big shows! It was nice to watch the fireworks comfortably on a couch and not have to fight traffic to leave. We then went to bed and promised Kajsa that we would go swimming first thing in the morning. We had the pool to ourselves for about an hour in the morning. It was great! Then we got ready for the day and ate at a wonderful breakfast buffet. Kajsa has always been fascinated with trains, so we told her we would ride on the train (Trax). We rode it to Temple Square so we could see the Jesus statue and the temple. Then we rode Trax back to the hotel and packed up and went home. The best part was that we were only 20 minutes from home! It was so fun to be together and it just might become a family tradition.
