Christmas 2007

Well, it is already a week into 2008 and I am finally getting around to writing about Christmas. We had a great Christmas this year spending time with both our families. I was so excited to have Simon home for a week and a half, but he ended up being home a few days before he was supposed to with appendicitis. He dealt with the pain for 2 1/2 days before we decided that maybe it wasn't just indigestion and all the symptoms led to signs of appendicitis. So the Thursday before Christmas he was in the emergency room and on his way to surgery. From the CT scan the doctor and nurses thought the appendix might be on the verge of bursting, but during surgery it didn't look like that, so they took the appendix out and now all is well. He didn't even have to stay overnight. It was a little slow around here with me being almost 8 months pregnant and Simon not being able to lift anything and both of us trying to keep a toddler entertained. But we managed, Kajsa understood that pappa had an "ouch" and she was content that I was the only one able to play and pick her up. We are grateful that he is doing better, but he still needs to take it easy, so no soccer for another week or so. We still were able to enjoy the Christmas festivities.

We spent Christmas Eve with the Östheds and got to enjoy a Norwegian Christmas dinner. Simon's sister-in-law is from Norway and her mother was here visiting. They put on a wonderful feast. It was so yummy. Then we played games, had the Jultomten (Scandinavian Santa) come and bring gifts to the kids, and enjoyed each other's company. It snowed a lot that night, so it was nice to wake up to a white Christmas. We just hung out at home Christmas day and Kajsa opened her presents. Then that Friday we headed up to Idaho to spend time with the Bowens. All of my siblings were home and it was fun to be all together again. The house was a little crazy with six silly grandkids running around, but they all had fun playing together. We also got together with the Bowen cousins for the annual White Elephant. It was pretty low-key this year. We got a picture of the great-grandkids that were there, but we were still missing about 1/2 of them. We came back on Monday and enjoyed time at home until Simon had to get back to work. Now I am trying to get everything in place for when baby girl #2 arrives. One month to go! Yikes!
